Ode to a Holiday

Ahh, the holiday, the holiday,
The blessed "I don't have to work-a-day"
You always come so few and far between.
Like a selfish guest, ambassador, or queen
How cruel and heartless and ruthless you are.
To give us a glimpse of a better life by far.
With time to clean and play and rest
A chance to really be our best
Get a few more winks and lounge in slippers
And sometimes find some wild adventures
But alas the moment is so very fleeting
And leaves our hearts just barely beating
When the holiday fades away to nothing
Returns us to our drudgery and leaves us longing.

I think it's great that you post poetry that you've written occasionally on your blog. It's so different from what most people do, and I love it!

There are days that I sit home and think that heading out to work would be the "glimpse of a better life." Thanks for reminding me what you like best of a short holiday at home - things I take for granted.
